Most R.O. equipment are remodeled and maintained. That is about $2000.00/year depending on to needs to change filters and etc. I buy filters at wholesale price in a case or more which lasts me a couple years.
Years ago, business was easy to run the business and material and expenses were cheaper.
All businesses have their own problems and headaches, especially if you have employees, this is a family business.
If you want to open the same as this business, you must find good location, pay for machinery/refrigerators/freezers, pay for plumber and electrician and buy merchandises, install sign, pay landlord first month rent and 2 months deposit and most important do advertising and grand opening. Starting business take about six months or more after you get the key from landlord. Most of these new businesses close after spending a lot of money.
This business was established more than 25 years ago, we purchased it in April of 2008. My husband and I added more shelves, refrigerator, freezer, merchandise, and we increased the price from 25 cents per gallon to 30 cents per gallon in the beginning. Right now, it is 50 cents per gallon. It can go higher due to inflation in the near future.
We also added UHAUL supplies and truck rentals after five years. We have been doing that for over 10 years. When we started U-Haul the first year, we made about $15K and last year we made about $40K. Every year the income increased.
This business was open 7 days per week from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM. We got Covid in December 2020 and Elias, my husband, was in hospital for about 2 weeks and he stayed at home for about 4 months to get well. That is why we reduced the time of closing. When we closed the business for a month during Covid, we still had income from the vending machines and UHAUL. If the buyer wants, can open sooner and close later (Food 4 Less is 6- 12 and coin laundry is 6-10). The income from the water store depends on the hours, price of the merchandise and water, greeting of customers one by one ETC. For us the income is steady enough to pay all the bills at store and home even at the lower hours. Bottom line the customers come when we are open because of the quality of water and they like the service.
Do not talk to the owner and employees.
If you talk to anybody at the store without arrangement, the seller will not sell to you.
No Co-op brokering.
